The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to announce the passing of former Sheriff James “Mike” Michael Hensley, age 78, who died on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Indiana. The department extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Pamela “Pam” Hensley, their family, and all who knew and loved him during this time of profound loss.
Born on November 11, 1947, Mike Hensley was the son of James Leon and Elizabeth (Harland) Hensley. He graduated from Clinton Central High School in 1966 and went on to dedicate his life to service, beginning with his enlistment in the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in December 1966. He served honorably until November 1972, earning recognition including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his military service, Mike pursued a career in law enforcement, graduating from the Indiana Police Academy in 1975. This marked the beginning of a remarkable 47-year career serving Clinton County in various roles. He worked as a road deputy, later served as D.A.R.E. officer in county schools, and was eventually elected Sheriff of Clinton County, a position he held with distinction for eight years. He continued his service as Chief Deputy and later as a Clinton County Councilman, serving from 2013 until his passing.
Mike was widely respected for his leadership and civic involvement, contributing to numerous boards and organizations including the Indiana Sheriff’s Association, Kiwanis Club, FOP, Drug Liaison Committees, and community coalitions focused on safety, education, and drug prevention. His commitment to public service left a lasting impact across multiple generations.
Beyond his career, Mike enjoyed farming, riding motorcycles, and working in his barn. He found his greatest joy in traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren, often teaching them practical skills with patience and pride.
He is survived by his wife Pam, his children Chad (Sarah) Hensley and Chris (Megan) Hensley, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Hensley.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held. Stout & Son Funeral Home – Neptune Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Mike Hensley will be remembered for his decades of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his community. His legacy will continue to live on in Clinton County.
