INDIANAPOLIS — A man has died following a pedestrian crash on the northwest side of Indianapolis late Saturday night, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). The incident remains under investigation.
Police say officers were dispatched at approximately 10:08 p.m. to the 5300 block of North High School Road after reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway with severe injuries. Emergency responders immediately provided aid at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
Despite medical efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:52 p.m., authorities confirmed.
Investigators say an SUV was involved in the crash. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement during the initial investigation. Police have stated that, based on preliminary findings, they do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors; however, standard chemical testing will still be conducted in accordance with state procedures.
As of Saturday night, IMPD reported that no independent witnesses had been identified who directly observed the collision. Detectives are actively seeking additional information from the public to help reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact IMPD at (317) 327-6549 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
During a late-night briefing, IMPD Night Watch Captain Don Weilhammer urged drivers to exercise caution, noting increased pedestrian activity and changing weather conditions in the area. He emphasized the importance of reducing speed and remaining alert, especially when roadways may be affected by rain and reduced visibility.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities continue to review evidence and gather witness statements.
